KALAMAZOO. MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An event that gives amateurs and professionals 48 hours to work with an assigned genre, line of dialogue, character, location, and props to create a one to six minute film returns in April in Kalamazoo.
The Kazoo 48 Film Festival is in its fifth year, and in 2024 is partnering with the Kalamazoo Film Society.
“We’ve heard people wanting the event to grow, and we listened” says Chad Campbell, Executive Director of the festival. “This will be the fifth year of this festival and we plan on it being the biggest. Bigger prizes, T-shirts, stickers, a premiere night at Kalamazoo 10 and much more!”
Designed to introduce people to filmmaking along with uniting and challenging cinema enthusiasts, Kazoo 48 Film gives each team 48 hours to complete a short film.
“We hope to see a major increase in filmmakers this year. Michigan has no limit on its talent, and we are excited to be offering a grant to bring Kazoo 48 its biggest year yet” said Dhera Strauss, President of the Kalamazoo Film Society.
Once complete, the films will be judged in their respective amateur and professional categories by a group of local filmmakers, with prizes awarded for best use of assigned items along with an engraved gold kazoo for the Best Films.
The contest begins April 5, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. with the submission deadline April 7 at 6:00 p.m.
Select finished products will be showcased in a screening at the Kalamazoo 10 theater April 25.
