KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Tests conducted on the Asian Carp that was found just nine miles from Lake Michigan in June show it originated in the Illinois watershed.
The researchers say during its four years of life, the fish made it 37-miles upstream, getting through or evading three electric barriers.
Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow says it emphasizes the need to reinforce the defenses at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam now rather than later.
The researchers can say where the fish has been, but have no idea how the carp did it.
