PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A woman was saved from a burning motel in Pennfield Township north of Battle Creek on Monday night after a fire broke out.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says they were told at about 9:45 p.m. that the Pennfield Township Fire Department was dispatched to the possible structure fire at the Michigan Motel on M-66.
When deputies arrived, part of the building was fully engulfed in flames. Deputies along with other motel guests started evacuating others in the motel.
They were told that a woman was trapped inside an adjacent room and could not get out. As Pennfield firefighters arrived, deputies assisted them with getting her out as well as putting the fire out.
Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening. She was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for treatment.
A deputy and three fire personnel were treated and released for smoke inhalation.
The Sheriff’s Office assisted firefighters from Pennfield and Bedford Townships as well as LifeCare Ambulance. All of the residents who were displaced due to the fire were taken to a nearby hotel.
