KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Warrants have been issued against the suspected drunk driver who plowed into the front end of a Metro Transit bus at over 100 mph west of downtown Kalamazoo this spring, but it may be a while before he is arrested and brought to court.
Michael Spencer is named in warrants for being a repeat drunk driver, driving on a suspended license and driving recklessly causing injuries. Each of the four felonies carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.
Spencer won’t be formally charged until he has recovered sufficiently from the injuries he suffered in the crash. It’s not clear when that will happen.
Metro Transit driver Lashon Diallo lost her leg as a result of the crash and continues a slow rehabilitation.
Four other passengers on the bus required treatment.
