KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Researchers at Western Michigan University are working on better ways for humans and robots to interact and to determine ways of improving communications.
Their test subject is a robot named Pepper, an interactive robot that talks and gestures and reads the emotions of people. It’s already working at many shops in Japan and in Europe helping customers make buying decisions.
Chad and Autumn Edwards have obtained one of the robots to determine if longer more complex or short and simple phrases works better, what creeps people out about talking with robots and what makes it seem more natural.
