KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — If you recycle in the city of Kalamazoo, it’s about to get easier.
If you don’t recycle, you may want to start when the city moves to single stream on Oct. 1.
Republic Waste’s Bob DeOrsey said people need to opt-in to the program to participate. Republic held a public forum Wednesday at city hall to introduce the program. Instead of sorting and lugging the recyclables to the curb in small bins, Single stream allows you to just chuck the cleaned recyclable item into a blue herby-curby and roll it out to the street.
DeOrsey said they do the sorting for you at a facility in Elkhart, Indiana.
He says they are already doing single stream in Portage, Battle Creek and Kalamazoo and Cooper Townships.
