UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — There is a great deal of speculation about the impact that Hurricane Harvey will have on gas prices, but it’s pretty clear that it’s anybody’s guess.
Tom Kloza at the Oil Price Information Service is predicting a 10 to 15-cent hike. Analyst Phil Flynn says there are a lot of factors to consider, so the range could be greater five to 25 cents per gallon.
But Trilby Lundberg says gas prices could actually drop. She says with over seven million Texans impacted by the storm, and few of them driving, that use and demand should go down.
We may not have to wait long to find out. Patrick Dehaan at GasBuddy says if prices are going to go up, it will happen soon, perhaps this afternoon.
AAA of Michigan says gas prices went up an average of 6-cents per gallon in the last week, but can’t say it’s due to Hurricane Harvey.
