KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has released the description of a suspect vehicle in the city’s first murder of 2024.
Monday at about 1:28 a.m. police responded to the report of multiple shots fired with a man down in the 100 block of East South Street. On arrival, officers located 26-year-old Romero Devon Weakley of Kalamazoo suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Bystanders were attempting to render medical aid including CPR. Officers continued with those lifesaving efforts and arranged for transport to a local hospital, where Weakley succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
During that same time, a second person sought treatment at an area hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Detectives Tuesday said they are looking for a suspect vehicle that is described as possibly a newer dark colored four door Dodge Charger. The vehicle may have been damaged during the shooting. The damage may be minor including one or more bullet holes.
KDPS says if you observe such a vehicle, contact the non-emergency number of Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority at (269)488-8911.
