KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s finally stopped raining in Texas but the flooding continues as experts are now saying Harvey will be the most expensive natural disaster in U.S. History.
Reuters reports there may be property worth as much as $23-billion that may have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey’s winds, rain and flooding.
The New York Times reports the death toll has risen to at least 38, hundreds of thousands remain stranded, food supplies are running low, shelter locations are overwhelmed, and some shelters have had to be abandoned as flood waters have inundated them too.
Vickie Eichstaedt with the Kalamazoo Chapter of the Red Cross says they are required by Congress to respond to disasters, but rely on the public for funding, and that’s how you can help.
You can do that simply by calling 1-800-red cross or texting them and it will automatically send $10 to relief efforts. Just text the word “Harvey” to number 90999.
