KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — It’s been a tough time for festivals in Kalamazoo, but it was a good year for the fair.
The Kalamazoo County Fair predates the Civil War.
Parks and Recreation Director David Rachowicz said, five years ago when his department took over the event, they set two goals: To make the event financially self-sufficient, and to make it safe for families.
Rachowicz said both goals were achieved this year.
The event rebranded itself as the Kalamazoo County Youth Fair this year. Attendance held up and it ended up in the black.
