KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller has appointed a new Undersheriff to replace Pali Matyas when he retires in about a month.
Capt. James VanDyken is a native of Schoolcraft who got a bachelor’s degree From Grand Valley State University. He’s also a graduate of the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Police Academy and the FBI Academy.
Matyas said the 47-year-old VanDyken will spend a month with him, learning the job.
VanDyken’s father also served as a captain at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and still lives in Schoolcraft.
