KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — As bad as the damage has been in Florida, it held up better than most expected. Kalamazoo Township Trustee Mark Miller says that’s the lesson to learn from the two hurricanes.
Miller says Florida has strict building codes to make homes and buildings hurricane resistant and it appears to have paid off. He says Houston has practically no building codes or zoning and it’s resulted in massive flooding.
They pave over more and more of Texas to deal with the population growth, and the water has nowhere to go. Miller says Michigan has building codes and water runoff standards for a reason.
He says the codes here suit the climate and they keep us safe.
