BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 22-year-old woman is in the Calhoun County Jail for domestic assault and charges are pending against a 24-year-old man after a physical fight that led to a gunshot to the man’s foot.
Battle Creek Police responded at 11:23 a.m. today to the 100 block of Magnolia Avenue for a report of people hearing gunshots in the area. Dispatchers told police a man with a gunshot wound was already being taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital by personal car.
Police were able to speak to both the man and woman at the hospital.
According to the Battle Creek Police Department, they determined the man and woman had been in a fight on Magnolia Avenue. During the fight, the man’s gun apparently came loose from his waistband, and fired as he tried to secure it again. The gunshot hit his foot.
The man and woman then separated, but met up again and the woman took him to the hospital for treatment.
Charges are pending against the man for gun registration violations.
