Land prices are trending higher this fall according to Farmers National Company. Its latest check shows buyers are ready to bid up good quality Midwest land which is a major change from recent years. The company cites two sales as an example. In central Iowa two separate 120-acre tracts brought $13,700 and $13,400 per tillable acre. At the same time, a quarter section in central Illinois sold for $13,500 per tillable acre. A spokesman for Farmers National says farmers continue to actively bid for good cropland as it becomes available in their areas as they add to their operations. He says the lack of safe, alternative investments that return more than farmland is another factor supporting demand for land.
