BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek’s City Hall is 103 years old and showing its age.
Recently during restoration work on the front façade, a chunk of it fell off, hurting one of the workers and breaking a window.
Water Damage is getting the blame.
Beginning on Monday, a pair of engineering firms will resume a comprehensive structural assessment to determine if there may be other unseen damage or repairs that are necessary to maintain the Beaux-Arts classical structure that originally cost just over $300,000 to build.
Residents may see scaffolding and lifts in use for a good part of this week, and residents who want to gain entry may be directed to specific entryways, for safety sake.
Regular business hours will be maintained.
Engineering firms from Kalamazoo and Grand Haven will be doing the assessments.
