MIAMI, FLORIDA (WKZO AM/FM)– It’s official. Former Yankees great and Maroon Giant Derek Jeter is one of the new owners of the Miami Marlins.
Major League Baseball has just approved the sale of the team to Jeter and Florida businessman Bruce Sherman.
Sherman will have controlling interest, while Jeter will be CEO and run the team. It will be his first attempt at baseball management.
He will have to try to do worse than his predecessors who have steered the team to eight straight losing seasons and reports of piles of debt.
Former owner Jeffrey Loria purchased the Marlins for 158-million dollars 15-years ago, and has now sold it to the Jeter/Sherman group for one-point-two billion dollars.
