KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Schools Superintendent Michael Rice and Promise Director Bob Korth were on hand this morning at Lincoln International Elementary School for a special signing ceremony for the Promise Scholar Class of 2030.
That’s the year that this year’s kindergartners will graduate. The goal is to get them thinking about and working toward college from the start.
They are each given a certificate that is signed by their parents, the student, a representative of the district and a Promise official. Its suitable for framing, and comes with a photo of the momentous occasion.
They plan to do this with every Kindergartner in the district.
It’s not a binding contract, but more of a guarantee that if everyone does their part, that their tuition will be covered at whatever Michigan College they choose, and chooses them.
