KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The original operators of the Second Impressions thrift store on Westnedge sprang into action when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, boxing up 4000 items of clothing from the store’s storage barn and loading them up on a semi.
Walmart filled the rest of the trailer with 60 cases of Toilet Paper and they headed for Houston.
When Irma hit Florida soon after, Ed and Marci Muller collected $5,000 through church groups, bought disposable diapers and headed to Jacksonville.
“I think it’s wonderful how much these volunteers were able to accomplish in such a short time,” said Nicky Tarchala, a sales associate with The Fountains at Bronson Place, home of Ed and Marci.
Ed said, “Christians are giving and there was a need. We are Christians. That is why we did it.” Ed and Marci are retired now, but still volunteer at the store.
