KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Wings have a female goaltender in training camp as Mariah Fujimagari tries to make the ECHL team’s roster.
The 29-year-old Canadian played in Sweden last year, going 1-11-0 with AIK in 14 games played. She was a figure skater until turning 12.
She is up against three other goaltenders for the job, and the team will carry three total for the season. Fujimagari played college hockey at the University of Maine from 2013 to 2017, posting a 5-9-2 record.
Fujimagari got the attention of coach Joel Martin a few years ago.
The Kalamazoo Wings regular season begins next Saturday at the Wings Event Center as they take on the Toledo Walleye.
Those two teams will also play an exhibition game this Saturday at Wings Event Center, with both games starting at 7:00 p.m.
