LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) – Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced Friday that she has issued a directive that will ban the open carry of a firearm at polling locations, clerks’ offices, and absent voter counting boards on Election Day, November 3rd.
Benson stated that Attorney General Dana Nessel and the Michigan State Police will be responsible for informing local law enforcement agencies of the ban, and also to ensure enforcement of the directive.
Benson said that the presence of open firearms at those locations can “cause disruption, fear, or intimidation for voters, election workers, and others present”, and also emphasized that voters who experience intimidation, or witness it, should report it immediately to an election official or worker, and if they believe they are in immediate peril, to call 9-1-1.
