PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage City Council said goodbye to their outgoing Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore, and swore in the new and newly reelected members last night.
Mayor Peter Strazdas signed off as Portage’s longest serving mayor at 12-years, serving four years prior to that as a council member. He is battling a cancer diagnosis and decided not to run again, but has hinted he might be back.
Mayor Pro-tempore Nasim Ansari is also stepping down, after losing the Mayor’s race to the new top elected official in the city, Patricia Randall.
Also joining the board are two new faces, Lori Knapp and Chris Burns and returning council members Terry Urban and Claudette Reid.
One of the first items coming up for the Council will be a work session on Medical Marijuana.
