(Reuters) – Hurricane Lee is likely to remain a large and dangerous hurricane into the weekend even though slow weakening is forecast during the next few days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Wednesday.
Hurricane and tropical storm watches have been issued for much of coastal New England, the Miami-based forecaster said.
Lee was located about 965 miles (1550 km) south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, packing maximum sustained winds 105 mph(165 kph).
The center of Lee will pass west of Bermuda on Thursday and then approach the coast of New England and Atlantic Canada on Friday and Saturday, the NHC added.
