KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A special free prescription program will continue in Kalamazoo County.
The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department says their continued enrollment in the National Association of Counties Prescription Discount Card Program for Kalamazoo County residents and their pets is a powerful step towards breaking down the barriers to affordable healthcare.
“Caring for the health of our community involves addressing the social determinants that shape the well-being of our residents,” said Kalamazoo County Health Officer Jim Rutherford. “By providing access to discounted prescription medications, we are directly addressing the financial aspect of health equity, ensuring Kalamazoo County residents can prioritize their health without compromising their financial stability.”
Accepted by nine out of 10 pharmacies, including all major chains, the card provides relief to uninsured and underinsured residents by offering up to 80% savings on generic prescription medications and up to 40% savings on brand-name prescription medications. Additionally, there are no forms to fill out, no age or income requirements, and no medical condition restrictions.
Nearly 1,300 counties, parishes, and boroughs nationwide have joined the NACo Prescription Discount Card Program since its inception in the early 2000s, saving residents over $713 million on over 51 million prescriptions.
Kalamazoo County residents can pick up their card between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. To learn more about the NACo Prescription Discount Card Program, visit https://www.naco.org/live-healthy-us-counties.
