PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two Kalamazoo County fire departments are among several in West Michigan receiving federal funding for training and equipment.
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters of Michigan Monday said the funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Fire Prevention and Safety Grant programs.
The Charter Township of Comstock will receive $641,020 for EMT training, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors for the fire stations. The City of Portage will receive $33,473 to give staff advanced EMT training.
City of Battle Creek will receive $85,490 to purchase smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and devices to alert the deaf and hearing impaired of fires.
