KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The state of Michigan’s environmental watchdog agency has issued an order to Graphic Packaging Inc. to clean up its act and Kalamazoo’s air, and they are asking for public comment on the plan.
Residents may need a chemical engineering degree, or do some serious homework to comment intelligently.
One order will require the company to install monitoring equipment on boilers that will allow them to adjust what goes in, so they can prevent contaminants from coming out.
Another order addresses emission limits and equipment violations, includes a compliance plan, a monetary penalty, and sets future fines for additional violations.
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is taking comments online, by voicemail, snail mail, or you can participate in an October 5 virtual public meeting.
