KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — After a long abusive relationship, Kevin Stanfill walked his wife, 36-year-old Kelly Anne Carl, the mother of their three children out into a field in Cooper Township and shot her four times in the head in November of 2016.
Rather than go to trial for premeditated murder as a repeat offender facing life without parole, Stanfill cut a deal with prosecutors and pled to an open murder charge.
He was given 26 to 60 years in prison, under the plea arrangement.
The 40-year-old apologized to the family of his wife at his sentencing Monday, but they consider him despicable and evil and say this is not justice.
