KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A suspect is in custody for allegedly shooting a 17-year-old early Wednesday morning, and two Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers involved in his apprehension have been placed on administrative leave in the case.
Just after 1:00 a.m. KDPS officers were on patrol in the 500 block of North Church Street when they observed a male suspect shoot another individual.
Public Safety Officers chased the shooting suspect. During this chase, an officer fired one shot at the suspect and an additional Public Safety Officer struck the suspect with their vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.
The 17- year-old suspect was transported to Bronson Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be released.
The victim of the original shooting, who is also 17-years-old, is in critical condition at Bronson Hospital.
Michigan State Police have been requested to investigate the interaction with the suspect and KDPS officers. The officers involved in the incident were not injured.
