KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Its beginning to look a lot more like Christmas outside, and the snowfall has arrived just in time for one of Kalamazoo’s new Christmas Traditions this evening.
The fifth annual “The Run Through the Lights” is a benefit for Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
It gives runners a chance to dress up like Santa, a Christmas Tree or an elf and do a holiday dash or stroll, with the downtown decorations as a backdrop.
Gazelle Sports Spokesperson Cara Zerbel says they do insist you wear lights for safety sake. She says you can bring nonperishables and Loaves and Fishes also take cash donations. All the proceeds from the event also go to the local food bank.
She says every year the event has grown and they expect 800 runners, walkers, joggers and amblers to take part but they suggest you leave the dogs and the strollers at home.
It has grown into a very big event that this year will start from Bronson Park, where there is more room for pre-registration and socializing.
And there will be after events as well.
Late registration begins at the Rotary Stage at 5 pm. The event kicks off at 6 pm.
