KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Classes for the 2023-2024 year begin today for students in public schools across Kalamazoo County. Today is just a half day for students in Kalamazoo Public Schools.
The district also has a new superintendent on-board, with Dr. Darrin Slade taking over the job earlier this summer.

Parents will have to prepare for a couple of shorter days than usual this school year, being added to the schedule for the first time.
Teachers have been complaining for years about having to do in-service training on their own time and according to Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Sheila Dorsey Smith the half-days will provides time during the school day for training.
Students will be dismissed an hour and a half early Wednesday, October 18 and Wednesday, December 13 for teacher in-service training.
