VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATED: Wednesday, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office announced that a suspect has been arrested in a murder case dating back to February 2019.
Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that Deputies and Detectives from Van Buren County had been investigating the death of Donald Collins.
After a lengthy criminal investigation, police say Frances Collins was charged with Felony Murder related to Vulnerable Adult Abuse by the 7th West District Court in Van Buren County.
Police note that Frances Collins is not related to Donald Collins.
In a separate statement released Wednesday, police clarified the nature of Donald Collins’ death.
According to police, Collins passed away at an assisted living facility after being transferred from the care takers home to the hospital. He was previously in the care of the suspect, who was a care taker in her home, with no relation to the victim.
The investigation was related to Vulnerable Adult Abuse, due to the care he received from the suspect Frances Collins, which in turn resulted in his death days after being transferred to the hospital and assisted living facility. Cause of Death was listed Sepsis (infection) as a result of his care while in her home.
Frances Collins was arrested Tuesday and lodged at the Van Buren County Jail without incident. She has since been arraigned on the charges and issued a bond of $25,000.
She is scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference on October 28 at 1:30 p.m. in South Haven District Court.
