KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Low gas prices will be around a while, but prices around 1.70 to 1.80 may only last a few more days.
Michael Green with AAA says there are just six states with gas prices that are on average, below $2 a gallon.
Michigan was the 6th to slip under that mark.
It’s an odd list because all the states are in the Midwest and only Oklahoma is a state where they pump and refine the oil. Green says the shift in dynamics is due to Canadian crude and the location of the refineries that are designed to handle the heavy crude.
But Gasbuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan says prices in the 1.70 to 1.80 range just aren’t sustainable, and have been kept “artificially low” by gas station competition.
He says prices will probably jump ten to twenty cents sometime in the coming week.
