GOBLES (WKZO) — A Gobles man is facing several charges after police say he led deputies on a high speed chase down icy county roadways, a chase that ended in the destruction of Christmas trees.
Police say they tried to stop 38-year-old James Daniel Stedman for traffic violations about midnight Monday night but he drove off, hitting almost 70-miles-an-hour on icy roads in Van Buren County.
Deputies claim the chase ended after he cut through a Christmas tree farm.
He damaged a number of trees but his 1995 Chevy Suburban also suffered damage and he was forced to stop and surrender.
He was apparently fleeing because he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Kalamazoo.
He now faces additional charges including fleeing and eluding and other possible counts.
