KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools is being sued for disability discrimination by parents Angela and Lee Smith.
They filed the federal lawsuit this month, saying their son suffers from anxiety, depression, ADHD, conversion disorder, and suicidal ideation and add the district made a Section 504 plan for him in 2018 but did not give him and Individualized Education Program until this February.
Lee took family medical leave to care for their son after he stopped going to class due to his struggles, losing around $20,000 dollars in wages and hospital bills for their son cost them over $300,000 last year when he was hospitalized for nearly three months.
They are seeking damages for the lost finances in the lawsuit.
