KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 2023 started with a sharp decline in homicides in the City of Kalamazoo, but all that has changed since early April, and the city is are once again on pace for a bad year.
Gun safety advocates plan a series of three Gun Violence Resource and Resilience rallies again this summer to promote community involvement in reducing gun deaths and injuries.
Kalamazoo City Commissioner Estevan Juarez is one of the organizers, who says city hall can’t end gun violence, but instead it will take a community effort
He says there are a lot of individuals and organizations are working on the problem, but he says it will take everyone to end the violence
The first rally will be Saturday, July 22 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Rockwell Park in the Eastside Neighborhood. The second will be August 5 in the North Side’s LaCrone Park, and the third will be August 22 at the Urban Alliance in the Edison Neighborhood.
