KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are called on to do a lot of things in emergencies, become firefighters, perform emergency medical procedures, even apparently perform marriages.
Dean Lauer and Carrie Stull of Kalamazoo were scheduled to be married at the Courthouse on Crosstown at 2 p.m. but the court closed because of the weather.
They were there and the family was all in town and so they walked into Public Safety headquarters next door. Deputy Chief Karianne Thomas, asked what they needed and they replied “someone to marry us”!
Public Safety officer Sara Paul overheard the conversation, and knew that her Husband P.S.O. Joe Paul was licensed to do marriages. He was just coming on shift.
A few arrangements were made, they all convened to the Chief’s conference room and Nuptials occurred.
They can include a copy of the incident report for that emergency response in with the wedding photos.
We understand that alcohol may have been involved at the reception that followed.
