CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A request for a preliminary injunction from a group opposed to the BlueOval Battery Park near Marshall was denied by a judge on Monday.
Visiting judge William Marietti turned down the request from the group known as the Committee for Marshall, Not the Megasite.
Opponents of the proposed plant gathered more than 800 petition signatures but the injunction was turned down because only 136 of the signatures were found to be valid.
The group said on their Facebook page, “The committee is disappointed that the court did not grant a temporary restraining order on the work being done at the site while waiting for the hearing on the writ of mandamus to accept petition signatures.”
Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance Chief Executive Officer Jim Durian said, “Today’s decision is a positive step toward a brighter future for Marshall and beyond with Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park Michigan poised to create 2,500 local jobs. The Ford project has received overwhelming support from local elected officials who have consistently voted to keep it on track. BlueOval Battery Park also enjoys strong and broad community support from area residents and small business owners.
Durian went on to say, “Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park will help reverse years of job loss experienced by the Marshall community and we are excited to see it stay on track so it can create local jobs, especially for young people.”
