TEXAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — The ice on many area lakes still isn’t thick enough to hold a human’s weight. Police are reissuing that warning this weekend.
A resident near Crooked Lake found that out the hard way on Saturday morning, and so did some of the people who tried to rescue him.
They managed to get him out but he fell back through the ice which was only about an inch thick. The experts say it should be at least 4-inches thick to provide maximum safety.
Fire crews arrived with wet suits and got all the civilians back to shore, and they rescued the man who had fallen through.
The victim and one firefighter were treated for mild cases of exposure but both will be fine.
