LANSING, MI — Hunters in Michigan are no longer looking at possible jail time for not reporting their deer. Governor Whitmer yesterday signed a new law that eliminates the misdemeanor charge for failing to report a deer harvest within 72 hours of a kill.
The old law allowed for a 90 day sentence and a fine anywhere from 50 to 500 dollars. The new law starts hunters off with a 150-dollar fine. State Senator John Cherry wrote the new law, he says it protects hunters in the state from ‘undue penalties.’
