LANSING (WKZO) — The Michigan Secretary of State’s office has announced that half of the state’s residents have now signed up to be Organ donors. The national average is 40%.
Healthcare officials say that there are about 120-thousand people on waiting lists around the country and about 18 die everyday waiting.
Signing up to be on the organ donation registry is different than signing up on the bone-marrow registry.
The tests are different, and what they are looking for is different in a match. It’s blood-type with organs, with Bone Marrow it’s genetics.

Ben Schmidt was so popular, they have set a second one for the 26th.
Supervising Nurse Nan Meyers says it’s a simple swab that takes 5 minutes. Most of the time will be filling out a form. The more who register, the better the chances that a match will be found.
