LANSING (WKZO) — Michigan Supreme Court justices are digesting oral arguments about the impact of the state’s right to work law on 50-thousand state government employees.
Unions for the state workers argued Tuesday that they are protected by the Michigan constitution from being subject to the law because the Civil Service Commission has the power to set conditions of employment. The Mackinac Center For Public Policy counters with the contention that the law covers all workers and gives them the right to have a choice as to whether or not they want to have union representation and want to pay union dues.
The Supreme Court has given no indication as to when a ruling could be issued.
