CENTREVILLE MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two people were killed and a third arrested in connection with an accident late Friday night in St Joseph County.
Deputies were summoned to Indian Prairie Rd near Kalamazoo Rd at around 10:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a two vehicle accident.
Initial investigation indicated that a Cadillac Escalade, driven by a 19-year-old LaGrange County, Indiana, man, had apparently attempted to pass a Chevrolet Cobalt in a no passing zone.
The Escalade struck the Cobalt, sending it off the road and into a tree.
A 29-year-old woman in the Cobalt was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 27-year-old woman in the Cobalt was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Escalade was uninjured and was arrested by deputies.
He faces several felony charges in connection with the accident.
Names of all those involved have not been released pending notification of next of kin and arraignment of the suspect.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
