PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It took firefighters about about 30 minutes to bring a fire in a garage and home in the 10000 block of Weaver Drive overnight.
At 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, crews from the Portage Department of Public Safety-Fire Division responded to the reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a well involved fire that appeared to have started in the garage and spread into the residence.
A 48-year-old resident was treated on scene for minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital. No firefighters were injured during this incident.
Portage Public Safety-Fire Division was assisted on scene by Pavilion Township Fire Department. Texas and Oshtemo Township Fire Departments back-filled
Portage Stations during this incident to handle other calls for service.
Portage fire investigators are being assisted by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Fire Marshal’s Office to determine a cause for the fire. At this time, the
fire is not considered suspicious.
