KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority has been informed by Pride Care Ambulance Service that effective Thursday June 8, they will permanently cease emergency and non-emergency ambulance service operations in all of Kalamazoo County.
Officials say the action impacts emergency 911 service for the City of Galesburg and for Brady, Charleston, Prairie Ronde, Richland, Schoolcraft, and Wakeshma Townships and that Life EMS Ambulance will assume 911 service for these areas.
They go onto say that the action by Pride Care Ambulance Service has been under discussion for several weeks with KCMCA and is the result of a business decision by Pride Care.
Life EMS Ambulance and the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Center have been preparing for this transition and will work to assure that our EMS system continues to be ready to respond to all medical emergencies in these communities and countywide.
With this change, Life EMS will be the 911 ambulance provider for all of Kalamazoo County with the exception of Ross Township which is served by LifeCare Ambulance Service.
Authorities say all requests for emergency ambulance service should continue to be made by calling “911”, and that non-emergency ambulance service should be directed to Life EMS Ambulance or Life Care Ambulance service, which are the two agencies licensed to provide ambulance service in Kalamazoo County.
