KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A man charged with the death of a Western Michigan University student back in November of 2021 has been found guilty.
20-year-old Hunter Hudgins was sentenced to 35 months to 15 years in court on Monday, June 5 for the death of then 19-year-old Bailey Broderick, who was hit by Hudgins while attempting to cross Fraternity Village Drive near Michigan Avenue.
Broderick later died at the hospital according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Hudgins was convicted of the following charges on April 21st to include Operating a motor vehicle under the influence or while impaired by liquor causing death, and Operating a motor vehicle when less than the age of 21 with a blood alcohol content of .02 to .07 percent.
Authorities say however, he was not found guilty of committing a moving traffic violation causing death. They go onto say that speed and alcohol were both factors in the incident.
Hudgins was arrested nearly six months after the crash.
