SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday, officials with Schoolcraft Community Schools announced that a student in their middle school has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Facebook post, officials confirmed that the positive test was in a middle school student, and that the middle school volleyball teams are being quarantined as a result.
“We are extremely pleased our protocols were in place and followed to help mitigate this incident. Our staff and students have done a great job socially distancing themselves, wearing masks, following handwashing guidelines, and keeping our facilities clean,” officials said in the post. “With that said, this case impacted athletic teams, who according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association, operate under different guidelines due to the inherent cohorting: within athletic teams. As noted above, we have taken the necessary precautions and will have those impacted quarantined.”
They also said the school is working with local health departments in regard to this development.
Meanwhile, school officials are reminding parents to be diligent in monitoring their children for signs of infection regularly.
“It is extremely important that parents/guardians monitor their children closely and complete at-home screening each day, including a temperature check, prior to sending their child to school,” officials said. “Please notify the school if your child is exhibiting any symptoms and keep them home until you can see your healthcare provider.”
Any questions from parents can be answered by contacting school officials, the post added.
