SOUTHERN MICHIGAN (WKZO) — Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo Public Schools and several other districts did not wait for the morning to announce that they were cancelling classes on Monday due to the worsening weather conditions. Almost all now have.
Some other businesses, services and local agencies have also closed, including the District Courts.
Even the State House and Senate have closed today because of the heavy snowfall.
The regional multi-state snow event which has closed schools from Nebraska to Maine, has also forced the cancellation of thousands of scheduled air routes.
If you are flying, working or traveling anywhere, you may want to call ahead first and make sure they are still open or on schedule before venturing out into the snow and cold.

Kalamazoo Undersheriff Pauli Matyas says all his deputies are tied up handling slide offs and other snow related problems and he is advising everyone to just stay put until the wind stops blowing and road crews can dig out the region.
(ORIGINAL STORY) The National weather service has issued a winter weather warning for all of southern Michigan because of falling, blowing and drifting snow.
It’s expected to make travel a challenge all day Super Bowl Sunday and into the night.
Some counties will wait for the snow to stop to start plowing. Others will try to keep main roads open but side roads will remain unplowed.
We could get up to a foot or more before it’s all over.
Winds of up to 35 mph will make keeping roads clear difficult and conditions could continue to get worse as the day progresses with a major storm system triggering a Blizzard warning in the Chicago area and a winter weather warning from southern Wisconsin to northern Ohio.
Police agencies are saying unless you really have to travel this Super Bowl Sunday, they suggest you hunker down with the snacks you have on hand and enjoy the big game at home.
