SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN (WKZO) — The severe winter storm that has hit the region prompted a number of churches to cancel Sunday services.
The City of Sturgis has declared a city wide snow removal emergency until further notice. Any one who parks their car on the street is subject to a 50-dollar ticket and having their car towed at an additional expense.
Police agencies are advising motorists to travel only if they absolutely have to.
AAA is telling members that they typically receive a high number of road service calls for stranded motorists, car crashes, vehicle slide-offs and dead batteries when the weather turns severe.
They are warning their members that priority service will be given to those who are stranded or in a dangerous situation and other less pressing service calls may have to wait.
They say if you must travel today, make sure you take your cell phone and a charger. Stay with your vehicle if you get stranded. If the engine can be started, only run it long enough to keep warm and make sure your exhaust pipe is clear to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
