KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Runners prepare for the Borgess “Run for the Health Of It” and the “Kalamazoo Marathon” in all sorts of ways.
Some run alone, some train all year and the elite runners compete in other marathons.
Over a thousand showed up for the opening day of Run Camp Saturday morning at the Borgess Health and Fitness Center on Gull Road.
For some it’s a chance to get in shape with the help of a coach as winter winds down. They will be running and training with people who plan to run the same length races and have the same skills and abilities so they won’t get discouraged.
Many participants say there is also a social aspect to Run Camp. They get to meet new people, share the experience and mingle with others their own age who share some of their same interests.
They gathered Saturday at the Gym at the Borgess Facility on the Nazareth Campus to get their team assignments, meet their coaches, schedule runs, set their goals and renew old friendships.
