LANSING (WKZO) — A Saginaw County businesses man is launching a campaign to fight a proposed sales tax increase.
On Friday Paul Mitchell formed a ballot campaign committee called the Coalition Against Higher Taxes and Special Interest Deals. He is urging people to vote against Proposal One on May 5th. His group’s volunteers will start distributing 100-thousand pieces of literature this week.
The proposal would increase the state’s sales tax from six-percent to seven-percent, as well as do away with an income tax deduction for vehicle registration fees. While Governor Snyder says the bill may not be ideal, it is, he says, the best way to raise the 1.2-billion dollars needed to fix the state’s roads.
