LANSING (WKZO) — The Michigan State Senate has approved their first bill of the new session.
It was one of the same packages that was among the last of the lame duck session to pass, eliminating the local gun boards that approve whether or not a person should get a concealed weapons permit.
That package was vetoed by Governor Rick Snyder because he said there was a loophole that would allow a person who had been restrained by a Personel Proecton order to still get a gun.
A practically identical version of the bills has now been approved in the senate that closes that loophole. That is the only change.
The bills now head to the house where passage is again expected.
Advocates say it will streamline the process of getting a concealed weapons permit, and opponents say that’s exactly why they dislike it.
